Martin Freeman Following Benedict Cumberbatch To Marvel Universe! Will The ‘Sherlock’ Co-Stars Reunite In A Movie?

| By

Marvel snagged another British superstar to join the Marvel Universe.

"The Hobbit" trilogy's Martin Freeman will join co-star Benedict Cumberbatch in the superhero business according to the film studio itself.

Will they be seeing each other in future Marvel films aside from their BBC show, "Sherlock"?

On Tuesday, Marvel announced that Freeman will be joining "Captain America: Civil War" which is slated for release on May 6 next year.

"From his roles as Bilbo Baggins and Doctor Watson to Tim in 'The Office,' Martin's range from the dramatic to the comedic has consistently impressed us," Producer Kevin Feige shared about the talented actor on the film studio's website. "We couldn't be more honored or excited to have such a talented actor join the Marvel Cinematic Universe."

The British star is most well-known for his work in BBC's Emmy Award-winning series, "Sherlock", "The Hobbit" franchise, "Fargo" and "The Office".

On the other hand, his colleague, Benedict Cumberbatch, previously signed on to play the neurosurgeon turned Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange.

Known for having its superheroes appear in each other's movies, will the film studio set up Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch to meet each other on the set of a Marvel movie?

Although the Marvel article gave no details about Freeman's upcoming role in the "Captain America" sequel, Latino Review reported that he could be playing some sort of interrogator who will also be appearing in "Black Panther".

According to speculations, he won't have any kind of special power but instead could be appearing as a US government agent named Everett Ross. He will reportedly be an expert on all things Wakanda.

IGN reported that Ross appeared as an envoy to the Wakanda king, T'Challa, in the "Black Panther" comics. Latino Review further speculated that he might channel an acting style that's more Clark Gregg than Christian Bale.
