The Real Reason Why 'Avengers: Age Of Ultron' Director Joss Whedon Quits Twitter

| By

In the last few days, the comic book world was left in shock after "Avengers: Age of Ultron" director left Twitter. Before doing so, the 50-year old writer and producer has received backlash over his latest film's treatment of Black Widow (played by Scarlet Johansson).

He was accused by some Twitter users as an anti-feminist for the way Black Widow's story arc was played out. With him suddenly missing from the micro blogging site, some people, including his colleagues like Mark Ruffalo who played Hulk and Patton Oswald, assumed he quit the social media site because of the backlash. Turned out, he just wants to get back to work and quit Twitter because he is spending too much time on it.

"That is horseshit," the "Avengers: Age of Ultron" director told BuzzFeed News by phone on Tuesday. "Believe me, I have been attacked by militant feminists since I got on Twitter. That's something I'm used to. Every breed of feminism is attacking every other breed, and every subsection of liberalism is always busy attacking another subsection of liberalism, because god forbid they should all band together and actually fight for the cause."

He also told the entertainment website that he is aware of people's reaction over him quitting Twitter and the public's reception of "Avengers: Age of Ultron." He also said he is okay and that he has no issue with feminist group. In fact, the second person to check him was Feminist Frequency founder Anita Sarkeesian.

It was not "Avengers: Age of Ultron" backlash or the people blasting him that made him quit Twitter. It is his own decision and just want to focus on his work.

"I just thought, Wait a minute, if I'm going to start writing again, I have to go to the quiet place," he said. "And this is the least quiet place I've ever been in my life. ... It's like taking the bar exam at Coachella. It's like, Um, I really need to concentrate on this! Guys! Can you all just... I have to... It's super important for my law!"
