'Orphan Black' Season 3 Episode 3 Postmortem: Latest Twist Discussed By Series Creator Graeme Manson; What Awaits The Female Clones?

| By

The latest "Orphan Black" season 3 episode called "Formalized, Complex, and Costly" offered the biggest twist of the show so far. The premiere episode started with the two set of clones on opposite sides.

The male ones (all played by Ari Millen) are hunting their female counterparts (Tatiana Maslany). However, as the third season progresses, Sarah and sister are discovering some things from their counterparts that suggest maybe they are not the real enemies. Last night might change everything as Sarah and Cosima learned the male male clones are their siblings.

In the last few minutes of the last "Orphan Black" season 3 episode, Cosima discovered that the two sets of clones are genetic siblings after examining the corpse of Seth.

Series co-creator Graeme Manson talked to Entertainment Weekly after that episode and he said, this twist will only raise more questions.

"It's an interesting revelation for us because they are genetic siblings and since we are a show that talks a lot about family, it raises a whole bunch of interesting questions about family," Manson said.

"Like, these dudes have not acted like our brothers. They are not good dudes to us thus far. So going forward, how do you choose your family? They're biologically related to us. Is that going to affect them and are they going to start to treat us differently? It's that type of question."

Manson was also asked for an "Orphan Black" season 3 episode guide regarding the probable reaction of the male clones in this latest revelation and looks like they will be more confused.

"That's absolutely right, and I think that's what's interesting about how we step forward beyond this. Sarah's going to have one reaction to this. I mean, Sarah's been having to swallow a lot and grow a lot over the last two seasons. How does she deal with this new information? Each one of the clones is going to take this differently. But to Graeme's point, these guys are kind of bad. It's interesting going forward: Are we going to get a chance to see any humanity here with the Castor clones? Are they going to act like their brothers? Or are they just going to remain our enemies?"
