The last season of Showtime TV series "Homeland" saw Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) move to Pakistan as an agent in the chaos-turn Greater Middle East. This move by the show drew flak at the start but then when fourth season started, public reception of the political thriller changed episode from episode. This ploy is effective for the TV series and so, they are doing it again. According to a "Homeland" season 5 spoiler, the setting will change from Asia to Europe, Germany in particular.
This "Homeland" season 5 spoiler was first reported by Deadline. It wrote:
"Homeland EP Alex Gansa said at PaleyFest last month that the Showtime drama was heading to Europe and would "probably" shoot in Germany, and now the pay cabler and Fox 21 TV Studios have made it official. Season 5 will begin production in early June at Studio Babelsberg in Berlin, becoming the first American TV series to shoot a full season entirely in Germany, according to Showtime. Homeland's 12-episode season will premiere this fall."
Another "Homeland" season 5 spoiler shared by Deadline is regarding the time jump from last season.
"Season five will pick-up two years after Carrie Mathison's (Claire Danes) ill-fated tenure as Islamabad station chief. Struggling to reconcile her guilt and disillusionment with years of working on the front lines in the "war on terror," Carrie finds herself in a self-imposed exile in Berlin, estranged from the CIA and working for a private security firm."
"Homeland" season 4 was a critical success despite being without one of its most loved characters, Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis). However, it has also been criticized for its portrayal of Beirut, Lebanon and its people.
"Beirut is one of the most secure capitals in the world, more secure than London or New York," said the country's Minister of Tourism Fadi Abboud.
The show also drew flak from Israel for branding their former prime minister as a killer in a conversation between CIA agent Dar Adal and former CIA director Saul Berenson, a Jewish character played by Mandy Patinkin. Herzl Makov, head of the Menachem Begin Heritage Center in Jerusalem said it is a "Slander against Menachem Begin and Israel."
