Toei Animation announced on Tuesday that "Dragon Ball Z" is getting a new TV series after 18 years and will be aired in Japan some time in July, Huff Post reported.
The new TV series will be called 'Dragon Ball Chou (Super) as "chou" (超) means "super," "hyper," "ultra," or even "very,'' Kotaku added.
"I've used the word "cho" (super) in so many commercials, games and other media, it is fantastic that the long awaited Dragon Ball Super will finally begin," said Masako Nozawa.
"I hope that this series will last a long time and have the same impact around the world as its predecessor."
Following the announcement the 78-year-old voice actor Masako Nozawawill confirmed that he will return to voice the characters of Goku, Gohan and Goten.
The story will be written by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama and the story will take place after Goku defeated Majin Buu, Famitsu reported.
"As I read the plot [of the series] I've already received from Akira Toriyama, my dreams for this begin to expand. An enemy even stronger than Buu or Freeza may appear," Fuji TV producer Osamu Nozaki said. (via IGN)
The last "Dragon Ball" TV series was "Dragon Ball GT," which aired from 1996 to 1997. While its first movie "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection" movie, reportedly earned about $8.1 million on its its first two days at the Japanese box office this weekend and "sold approximately 716,000 tickets in its first weekend," according to Anime News Network.
Aside from the movie's success the "Dragon Ball; Xenoverse" game for almost all gaming platforms including PC has been a huge success too as it was recently announced by Bandai Namco's Christophe Berrard at the Level Up 2015 that the game title has sold over 2 million copies worldwide since its launch.
