New features of the Xiaomi Mi5 have recently leaked online which include a fingerprint sensor as its patent suggests.
According to India Today, the patent that was filed by Xiaomi at the State Intellectual Property Office, China has leaked on My Drivers. It reveals integration between the touch home button and a fingerprint scanner and an additional glass layer that will protect the components of the biometric sensor.
"The device comprises a bottom fingerprint sensors and optical sensor provided in the terminal equipment of the cover glass; fingerprint identification circuit connected fingerprint sensor for fingerprint recognition sensor and the fingerprint information analysis and processing.''
''Obtain fingerprint analysis ; host processor, and an optical sensor and fingerprint identification circuit connections for the monitored optical sensor light information received to determine whether cover glass touch button operation; identity authentication based on fingerprint analysis results obtained fingerprint identification circuit," Xiaomi wrote on its patent application. Though details about the upcoming flagship is minimal, some reports claim that the Xiaomi Mi5 will sport a 5.2-inch screen which renders a 1440 x 2560 (QHD) resolution and a 565 ppi pixel density. Under the hood would be a quad-core 2.7GHz Snapdsragon 805 CPU coupled coupled with Adreno 420 GPU. The processor will be backed up by a 3GB of RAM and accompanied by an onboard 16G or 64GB onboard internal storage.
Camera-wise, it might feature a 16MP rear camera and 8MP on the front, while a decent 3,600mAh battery might be baked in too.
Also, the upcoming Xiaomi Mi5 has been confirmed to run on the MIUI7 custom user interface based on Android 5.1 Lollipop as the Chinese tech giant partnered with Android Open Kang Project (AOKP) team for the upcoming UI.
As for its release date, Phones Reviews noted that the Xiaomi Mi5 might be finally unveiled some time in Q4 of 2015, "later than previously rumored."
