'Vikings' Season 3 Finale Episode Postmortem: Is Ragnar Done With The Show Following The Latest Events?

| By

Probably everyone were fooled midway through the finale of the "Vikings" a couple of nights ago.

Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) has been ailing ever since the last few episodes and his death will surely sadden fans of the History Channel original TV series. Same reason why most fans are paranoid whenever Ragnar falls on his back.

The scene in the "Vikings" Season 3 finale episode that might have taken the breath out of viewers is when Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) put Ragnar's inside a box, a coffin, making everyone assume he died from an illness.

Every vikings around Bjorn were convinced Ragnar died and like what he wished, his body was brought to Paris, to the Christians who baptized him. Turned out, his death was fake.

The scene where his presumed dead body was put close to the king of Paris is reminiscent of the famous Trojan Horse used by the Greeks to enter Troy. Ragnar fooled French and so his peers. He popped out of that coffin and attack French officials. Ragnar did not die in the finale episode of "Vikings" season 3 but watch out fans, he might not also last that long come fourth season.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter shortly after the "Vikings" season 3 finale episode, series creator Michael Hirst reiterated his stance that he can see the show continuing without Travis Fimmel's character.

"It's very important to note that he's not only sick; he's hovering between life and death," Hirst said of Ragnar Lothbrok's future.

"So that impacts hugely on the beginning of season four, which we're working on now. It's a big story point. It's very important that Ragnar is weakened, ill and hovering between life and death when we come back for season four."

Hirst said also talked about how the audience can cope up if Ragnar dies.

"It will be devastating for audiences to witness the death of a great character and the end of a magnificent role. Travis has been absolutely charismatic and magnificent. But by that stage, his sons will be young, hot guys and hopefully the audience will already be engaged with them and want to follow them. They'll be different; each son has a different destiny and they'll be different sort of characters. But they'll be very powerful figures in their own rights. Instead of following one charismatic leader, hopefully we're going to have four young charismatic leads to follow."
