| By

After breaking box office records in just 17 days of being released in theaters, Vin Diesel and the rest of the team is going to be back for a "Furious 7" sequel.

The 47-year-old action star made the official announcement during Universal's CinemaCon panel.

The sequel, which still has no title will have a release date on April 14, 2017.

"We're going to make the best movie you've ever seen," he reportedly told the crowd.

"Furious 7" which opened huge in the U.S. has now reached $1 Billion sales world wide and still counting.

And it's no secret that much of its success could be attributed to the late actor Paul Walker, who died in a fatal car crash accident. And during the event, Diesel spoke of his good friend saying, "The last time I was on this stage I was with my brother Pablo.

"It's hard for me to even watch that clip and then come out here without being emotional."

Furthermore, Vin Diesel previously hinted that veteran actor Kurt Russell, who just made his first appearance in the "Fast & Furious" franchise, will have a bigger role in the "Furious 7" sequel during an interview with "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

He also added that the sequel's location could take place in the streets of New York, following their car chasing performances in Los Angeles, Tokyo and London.

And while Kurt Russell was hired to do more roles in the follow-up movie set in New York, could director Justin Lin return to helm the sequel?

While there hasn't been an announcement, a recent interview of "Furious 7" director James Wang with The Daily Beast, made fans asked if he has given up on the franchise.

"No one knows how much we went through to finish Furious 7," he explained. "I think it's a great idea for Justin Lin to come back. He had such a big part to do with where this series has gone, it would be amazing if he closed it out."

While Wan is not closing his doors, he said that his return would be dependent on what Universal Pictures would want to do with the sequel as it moves forward.

"They really have to think about how they want to proceed with it, and in a lot of ways, the next bunch would almost be like finding a new start," Wan said.

Whether James Wan would pass on the directorial responsibilities of "Furious 7" sequel back to Justin Lin remains to be seen.
