"Empire" TV series season 2 won't be around maybe until January next year.
Despite that, the clamor for the Fox musical drama remains loud ever since the finale of its first season. "Empire" was a beast in ratings, showing a week-to-week rise, something no cable TV show has done for a long while now.
The first season only had 12 episodes, a number that is pretty low compared to what other shows in the network get. And so, for its sophomore run, fans are hoping it will have more airing weeks.
They think with its success, "Empire" TV series season 2 should last longer. The thing is, series creator Lee Daniels do not find that idea amusing. Daniles and co-creator Danny Strong were at the Series Mania festival and there, they answered questions from fans regarding their hit musical drama. One of those is about the second season's chances of having more episodes.
"They (Fox) want to do 22 episodes which I think is a nightmare. And I know you all want to see 22 episodes, but that will kill her," Daniels said pointing to Taraji P. Henson who plays lead role and fan favorite Cookie Lyon, the ex-con wife of Empire Enterprises CEO Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard). Henson concurs Daniels' feeling that more episodes will be a nightmare.
"It's a lot of work to make that good stuff. I know it's going to be more than 12 and it won't be 22." The storyline will dig deeper into the backstories of all of the characters, Daniels promised. "I know that we'll explore the reason why Cookie went to jail," for example. There will also be exploration of "what's happening in America today - and the pressure is on!"
While "Empire" TV season 2 might not have more episodes, fans can still rejoice as Daniels and Strong are eager to bring in more big names from both music and movies. Among them are Eminem, Oprah, Iggy Azalea, and Denzel Washington.
