Hopes Stil High For 'The Last Of Us 2' PS4 Release Date! Will Naughty Dog Consider A Prequel Story Instead, Following Joel And Ellie's Ending

| By

Fans are patiently waiting for "The Last of Us 2" PS4 release date following the game's huge success when it was launched on June 14, 2013.

However, creative director Neil Druckmann had almost dismissed the possibility of a sequel when he was asked by a fan last year during a Reddit AMA.

"If you're asking about a sequel... right now I'd say it's 50/50," Druckmann answered.

And while fans were disappointed there is still that 50 percent chance for "The Last of Us 2" PS4 release date.

But if Naughty Dog and Druckmann decide to do a second installment for the post apocalyptic thriller adventure game, it will most likely not be a followup to Joel and Ellie's story, instead it might introduce a whole new plot.

"It's possible he won't want to compromise that ending with a sequel," Cinema Blend reported. "The development team at Naughty Dog might opt for a new story with never-before-seen characters instead."

But Druckmann reportedly could reconsider if and only if voice actors Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson would come back to reprise their roles.

"I'd probably reconsider the story [if Troy and Ashley didn't return]. They are Joel and Ellie to me," he said according to Cinema Blend.

With the in mind Movie Pilot has already pitched in a possible new storyline for "The Last of Us 2." The publication suggested that the sequel could instead be a prequel where Marlene and the fireflies are the main focus.

"Their history is a pretty fascinating one, and the potential for The Last of Us 2 being a prequel following this uprising would be fairly high," the publication suggested. "We could take charge of Marlene as she leads the revolution, or we could possibly play as one of the other members of the rebel group. Maybe the story could eventually run in tandem with Joel and Ellie's, as we play as someone else living their life during this time. It'd be interesting for me at least to explore how a faction like this becomes such a strong opposing force to corruption and forced rule."

And if Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann decide to pursue with "The Last of Us 2" for PS4 console, the release date would most likely not happen in the near future as they are still working on an "Uncharted" sequel.

Director Bruce Straley once told Game Spot that "The Last of Us 2" still remains "on ice."

"We're 110 percent in Uncharted 4 territory now," Straley said. "Blinders on, make this awesome."

"We totally get it, because we have those same feelings as well. We have brainstormed sequel ideas for 'The Last of Us,' and we've brainstormed ideas for new games, but all of that is put on ice right now while we work on 'Uncharted 4.'"
