A lot of 80s and 90s popular cartoon shows, including "Transformers," "G.I. Joe" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" have been able to make it to the big screen for the new generation to see and while the development has been rather really slow a CG-animated "Thundercats" movie is still reportedly in the works.
Years ago, Variety reported that veteran video game director Jerry O'Flaherty is going to helm the project under Warner Bros.
"It feels like a natural thing for me to step into," O'Faherty said of the "Thundercats" project. "Games have come so far now. The last four years of my life have been about bringing the energy of filmmaking into the videogame experience."
A famous satire publication called The Onion even created a fake news about "Thundercats" supposedly going to be directed by Michael Bay, who's both behind "Transformers" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."
Following the announcement of the project, progress seemed to have been taken a back.
However, fans have started to hear news about "Thundercats" again when "X-Men Days of Future Past" star James McAvoy candidly expressed his intentions in portraying the role of Lion-O.
"I would love to see a Thundercats movie but it's never going to happen," McAvoy admitted in an interview, which can be viewed here. "Lion-O is something great for any actor out there"
McAvoy's was made following a release of a fan made trailer of "Thundercats" movie, which involved Hugh Jackman, Vin Diesel and Brad Pitt.
"There is a great trailer for Thundercats where they took Brad Pitt and made him Lion-O, Hugh Jackman as Tygra and Vin Diesel as Panthro," the 35-year-old actor said.
Even "The Theory of Everything" star Eddie Redmayne, has expressed his interest to take on a role for a "Thundercats" movie.
Redmayne told Yahoo! News that he is interested in playing the role of either Bananaman or Snarf.
"Please, I'm desperate to do Bananaman," Redmayne confessed. "Bananaman is this great guy who eats a banana, and he becomes Bananaman. He's the one that I've always wanted to play, to the extent that Andrew Garfield - an old pal - was asked in an interview, 'If you could play any superhero other than Spider-Man, who would you play?' And he was thinking about it, and the interviewer was like, 'Bananaman?' And Andrew was like, 'No, Eddie's playing that.'"
"I'd like to play Snarf," he said.
