Fans of ASAP Rocky has long been waiting for a new album following the huge success of his 2013 Billboard 200 No. 1 record, Long.Live.ASAP.
But following the death of his mentor and good friend, ASAP Yams from acute drug intoxication last Jan. 18, 2015, the 26-year-old rapper seemed have put everything at halt.
However he surprised everyone when he revealed at Billboard that the new album is already done and the release date is all set.
"Honestly, it's finished," Rocky revealed last month. "I'm mastering it right now. It's coming soon. Seriously soon."
True enough his new album is indeed "coming soon," HITS Daily Double posted on their website that ASAP Rocky's sophomore album, At.Long.Last A$AP is going to hit the shelves on May 12.
"I'm claiming ownership of my legacy," the Harlem rapper previously told GQ of his new album. "Look at it: At.Long.Last.A$AP. A-L-L-A. Like slang for 'Allah.' It's the return of the god MC. I'm named after Rakim, and I'm finally facing what it means: I was born to do this shit. And I hope I get to do it for a very long time."
And what is offering his fans this time around? With artists bringing in surprise releases and collaboration, ASAP Rocky has his own gimmick.
"I don't consider it a surprise -- you put it out there and it's art, that's the surprise," he explained. "I hope people are surprised by my album. I don't know what to expect, I just do what I do."
And as for surprise collaborations with his new album, ASAP Rocky has this to say,
"I got one for you, he teased" [Long pause] Illz is thinking right now, like, 'You know who it is!' Uh... [Long pause] Alright, fine. Three years ago, I did a song with Twigs."
While he did not specifically confirm FKA Twigs' involvement he added other collaborators for his new album, A.L.L.A.
"Also Lykke Li. Juicy J [who appears on single "Multiply"]. Clams Casino. I can't give nothing else away."
Furthermore, ASAP Rocky revealed that his new album would feature a more musical look into it and would feature a more intellectual side often ignored in his previous works.
And as for what fans could expect in his new album, ASAP Rocky promised fans that this time around it will be more musically and intectually inclined. Is it as if he's saying that the upcoming record would be more serious as compared to his debut album.
"People really don't know the other side of me," the 26-year-old rapper explained. "The deeper side, the more musical side, the more intellectual side. When I first came on the scene it was more of this trendy, bourgeois, pizazz attitude. That's still me but at the end of the day I think that kind of overshadowed the whole purpose of me doing what I do. I'm an incredibly diverse artist, I'm a universal artist. At least that's how I see it."
