There’s some bad news for hummus lovers nationwide.
The Sabra Dipping Company made a nationwide recall of 30,000 cases of its classic hummus after several tubs in Michigan tested positive for the potentially lethal bacterium listeria, according to the NY Times.
Federal authorities have reportedly linked the listeria discovered in Sabra hummus to three deaths and five illnesses in Texas and Kansas. Social media users have been helping spread the word of the recent recall.
“Sabra hummus recall due to risk listeria. Help spread word: hummus is a popular family food, incl for toddlers,” wrote Twitter user OneHungryMama.
Sabra hummus consumers nationwide should look out for packages with the following codes, which are located on the top of each package, according to Detroit Free Press.

The bacteria that was found, listeria monocytogenes, can reportedly cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems, according to the FDA. The short term symptoms reportedly include high fever, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, according to CNN News.
It can also reportedly cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
