The highly anticipated "Assassin's Creed" movie adaptation to the hit game is finally moving forward.
"We have the pleasure to announce today that the green light has been given by New Regency, and the production has already started," Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot said in the company's quarterly financial call according to Wired . "This is a very important milestone for the project and for our team on Assassin's Creed."
"X Men Days of Future Past" star Michael Fassbender is said to take on the lead role with French actress Marion Cotillard.
Screen Rant claimed that the Oscar-winning actress joined the team last February for a still unknown role.
Fassbender who has remained attached to the "Assassin's Creed" movie excitingly announced that the adaptation is going to stay true to the game but it will have its "own version of things."
"You know, we absolutely want to respect the game," movie main cast Fassbender revealed. "There's so much cool stuff in the game that we're actually spoiled for choice in terms of what we can use and what we can't, but we also want to bring new elements to it and perhaps our own version of things that already exist in the game."
Together with Fassbender, "Assassin's Creed" movie is going to be directed by Justin Kurzel.
"I just think that there's one thing Justin should be doing, and that's directing," Fassbender said of the director. "I know that from working with him on Macbeth. He's just fantastic in terms of his vision. Adam, the DP that he works with, is amazing. They've got a great shorthand -- that's essential. He's fantastic with actors and each department. He's a real heavyweight."
"Assassin's Creed" movie release date is on Dec. 21, 2016.
