Katie Couric revealed on Monday during an interview with "X-Factor" judge Demi Lovato on her talk show that she suffered with bulimia in her early 20s.
The former cheerleader-turned-newswoman revealed her battle with the eating disorder during a chat with new "X-Factor" judge Demi Lovato - who was treated for "emotional and physical issues" in 2010.
"I wrestled with bulimia all through college and for two years after that," she shared, describing the guilt she felt at eating a single cookie or chewing a stick of gum that wasn't sugar-free.
Couric shared these intimate details as her guest Demi Lovato also opened up about her struggles. During the hour, Couric said little more about her experience, which she had never before made public.
"I kind of hesitated to even bring it up," she told The Associated Press after the taping. "But I felt that if I expect people on my show to be honest, then, when relevant, I owe it to people watching to be honest myself.
Demi Lovato also opened up about her ongoing struggle with body issues during an upcoming appearance on "Katie," where she reveals her insecurities started at just 3 years old.
"I remember being 3 years old in a diaper and rubbing my hand over my stomach," Lovato says, "and I remember thinking in my head 'I wonder if one day this will ever be flat?'"
Lovato talked about how she was bullied by her school mates who called her "fat," which led to her battle with bulimia, cutting, and depression.
Lovato also opened up about how she hit one of her back up dancers in 2010. "I wasn't really in control of my emotions at the time and I was just out of control and there's no excuse for it but it definitely showed everyone I needed to get help and I think two days later I was checking into rehab."
