"Agents of SHIELD" season 2 is leaps and bounds better than its first season.
There is not much difference in ratings though. In fact, it fares lower in viewership compared last year. However, the reviews are very strong for its sophomore run which still has three episodes left. The reception from critics is pretty much the reason why it will be renewed. That is not the only good news for the Marvel TV series.
Entertainment Weekly reported "Agents of SHIELD" season 2 is about to get renewed. The better news than that is it will get its own spinoff series and it will be lead by executive producers from other successful adventure/sci-fi shows.
"Huge news for Agents of SHIELD fans. Not only is a third season of the action-adventure series pretty much guaranteed, but Marvel is quietly developing a spinoff for ABC," EW wrote.
"We're told a spinoff is being developed by SHIELD executive producer Jeffrey Bell (Angel, The X-Files) and SHIELD writer Paul Zbyszewski (Lost, Hawaii Five-0)."
Marvel is expanding its scope on television. Before the remaining "Agents of SHIELD" season 2 episode one aired this 2015, "Agent Carter" starring Hayley Atwell in the title had eight episodes. The studio also had its "Daredevil" TV series aired in Netflix today while Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist are also set to have their own live-action shows.
Details regarding the "Agents of SHIELD" spinoff series are yet to be established. According to EW, Marvel hasn't come up with characters that will star in the spinoff show and they might be introduced in the remaining "Agents of SHIELD" season 2 episodes.
"However, story elements that are still to come on SHIELD this year will be used to lay the groundwork for the potential new series. So by the end of the season - assuming the details for this project haven't already leaked, which is rather unlikely - the spinoff concept should be clear."
The next episode of the show will air on April 14 titled "Melinda". Read the full "Agents of SHIELD" season 2 episode guide through this link.
