ESPNFC reported the 27-year-old Argentinian football star is set to miss his team's trip to Celta Vigo. According to the report, Messi's health condition is yet to be determined and the club is yet to announce if he is fit enough to return on the pitch.

It is also unclear whether when he contracted the injury as he was able to finish his very last match, the one versus El Clasico rivals Real Madrid which they eventually won.

Sources have it that the latest Lionel Messi injury news has something to do with his right foot, which means he can't even wear a boot to play.

Before this latest Lionel Messi news, Gerardo Martino, his coach at Argentina, already bared that the four-time Ballon d'Or was unfit to play in friendly against Ecuador.

"We waited until the last minute, but unfortunately it was not possible," Martino said. "I understand the expectation and desire to see him. But really he was not fit to play, it was difficult to put on his boots, there was no way of making him play. It was not even about taking a risk or not, he was not fit to play."

Gerard Pique also weighed in on the latest Lionel Messi news and according to him, his teammate "might" play against Celta Vigo this weekend.

"I spoke with him, of course, and I'm optimistic. I think he'll be fine for Balaidos, but it all depends on how he feels," he said at a promotional event on Wednesday.

Lionel Messi will be greatly missed against Celta de Vigo, especially with the fact that this is the first time these two faced-off at Camp Nou, Barca lost.
