Sylvester Stallone Wants All-Female 'Expendables' Spin-Off 'ExpendaBelles' To 'Hold On Its Own' - Possible Plot Details Revealed

| By

While news about the planned all-female "Expendables" spin-off titled "ExpendaBelles" has slow lately, Sylvester Stallone has revealed that he's just carefully planning on how to bring the movie to the big screen without looking redundant.

During an interview with IGN while promoting his previous film "Expendables 3," Sly managed to discuss details about the planned all-female cast project.

"There are all these things we're trying concoct so that when we do it, it doesn't just languish there... it's not just a use of the name but actually something that would hold its own," the 68-year-old veteran action star explained.

He also candidly shared his thought about the possible plot details of "Expendables" spin-off "ExpendaBelles."

"With The Expendabelles, we're in uncharted waters," he said told the press. "To put all women together, will that really work? Do you have to put in some women that are actually really known to be tough - other MMA fighters [like Ronda Rousey who appears in The Expendables 3]? Or are the Expendabelles really part of a divorce, with Sigourney Weaver as my wife and she's inherited half of the Expendables?"

Continuing, "It's like, I've got to deal with that too, I lost the house and my mercenaries."

However, while Sly may have had his thoughts about what the story of the all-female cast spin-off would be it has been reported by The Hollywood Reporter that the "queen of action movies" have "passed on starring in 'The Expenbendables' spin off 'ExpendaBelles.'"

While the publication failed to mention the reason why, Cinema Blend mentioned that 65-year-old Hollywood superstar's busy schedule would be the most apparent reason why she would have passed on the role.

When Sylvester Stallone previously mentioned the involvement of MMA fighters in the spin-off movie, fans immediately speculated that Gina Carano, could be slated for the action-packed "ExpendaBelles" film.

However, the 32-year-old UFC fighter immediately dismissed the rumors of her involvement in "Expendables" spin-off film.

"I was never attached to the female Expendables, it's just something like people put my name in there and then everyone thought it was truth," Carano explained, adding that she'll be doing a project with producer Adi Shankar (Dredd, The Grey) that may have a similar female-heavy action vibe.

With the slow progress the "Expendables" female spin-off movie is having, people are starting to worry in if it'll ever reach the big screen.

However, Sylvester Stallone has assured that he's determined to keep the franchise going no matter what.

"We'd like to just continue," he said. "It's an ongoing experiment. You have a great franchise in the 'Avengers' where you can branch off and do other things. Ideally, I would love to see some of these characters, like Antonio Banderas's Galgo or the young Expendables, go off and do their own movies. I know that's maybe a pipe dream, but then you come together for the big festival of violence or the great challenge of whoever the villain is [in the main film series].

Continuing, "I could definitely see one and a half, at least, maybe two more. You never know. But [with] the third one... I've always found that when I started doing films that were a franchise I was ridiculed for it - we all were. But I was always intrigued by television - how can they do ten years of the same character in the same location? And yet you watch it. But you do one film and you go, 'Oh that's the end'. Some films are designed like that but other films, you have characters that continue to grow and manifest different personality changes."
