"Empire" may be well loved all over the world but Taraji P. Henson's latest statement against the authorities from Glendale did not sit well for many.
In an interview with Uptown, the main "Empire" TV series cast said her son was once racially profiled in the Californian city and police officers illegally searched his car following a traffic violation.
She even said "I'm not paying $50K so I can't sleep at night wondering is this the night my son is getting racially profiled on campus." However, after the the Glendale Police Department released a video of the incident, Henson's claims turned out to be wrong.
Shortly after the release of the dashboard cam video, the "Empire" TV series cast immediately issued an apology to the police through her Instagram account.
"A mother's job is not easy and neither is a police officer's," Henson wrote on Instagram. "Sometimes as humans we overreact without gathering all of the facts. As a mother in this case I overreacted and for that I apologize. Thank you to that officer for being kind to my son."
In the video, the police officer and Johnson, the son of Taraji Henson, were heard having a peaceful conversation. The kid was being cooperative with the authorities and even admitted he has a marijuana in his car. The police is even so kind on the "Empire" TV series cast's son.
"I appreciate you being honest with me about the weed," the officer said. "I do appreciate that because I do smell weed, so thank you for being honest about that."
"I am not going to give you a citation for running that yellow because that would actually put a moving violation on your driving license, and you are going to have to go to traffic school and all that stuff, so I am helping you by not giving you a violation on it," the officer says. "All I am going to do is take the weed from you."
