Should ‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’ Cast Matt Smith As Newt Scamander? Eleventh Doctor Reportedly ‘Tipped For The Role’

| By

Has the "Harry Potter" spinoff, "Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them," finally found its lead actor?

According to The Sun (via Cinema Blend) Matt Smith, best known for his role as the 11th doctor in "Doctor Who," is "interested in playing 'magizooligist' Newt Scamander."

The Irish Examiner also reported that Smith is a "favourite" to take on the lead role. Although no specific reports or announcements have been released, the new Warner Brothers trilogy will reportedly start filming "this summer in London."

Cinema Blend noted that Matt Smith fits the bill quite well since he "is in the right age bracket for the part, more or less."

"Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them" will be set in the 1920s and Newt Scamander would be projected as a wizard in his late 20s during his discovery of magical creatures.

Casting for the new film off of JK Rowling's books has mostly been kept quiet but fans have been throwing in their suggestions as to who they want to play Newt Scamander.

Radio Times, on the other hand, have suggestions of their own regarding who Newt should be.

The article believes "Merlin" alum Colin Morgan, twin brothers Luke and Harry Treadaway (who plays Viktor Frankenstein in Showtime's "Penny Dreadful") as well as Emilia Fox' younger brother Freddie would be great contenders for the role.

"Spiderman" star Andrew Garfield will reportedly be a good choice as well. There's also Luke Newberry who went as far as shooting for a (deleted) scene in the "Harry Potter" epilogue scene as Teddy Lupin.

Whoever gets casted as Newt Scamander in "Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them," one thing is for sure, "Harry Potter" fans are looking forward to this new spinoff.
