With Oscar Pistorius' trial being moved up to South Africa's Supreme Court, the spotlight is now aimed at June Steenkamp, the victim's mother.
Did Reeva Steenkamp's mother imply that her daughter was in an abusive relationship with the fallen South African athlete even before being killed that Valentine's Day?
"She told me they were fighting all the time, which is unusual for a three month relationship," the older woman reportedly told TV ONE's breakfast show last Monday.
"I didn't know about his mafia lifestyle, about the guns," the model's mother added.
During Oscar Pistorius' trial, Judge Thozokile Masipa chose to dismiss all the evidence pertaining to the alleged violent relationship that put fear in Steenkamp's heart. The Blade Runner was instead convicted of culpable homicide and sentenced to five years in prison.
However, he could possibly be released after 10 months to continue his sentence under house arrest.
Steenkamp has since published her book "Reeva: A Mother's Story," which is about her daughter who was gunned down by Pistorius on Valentine's Day last year. She also started giving talks about domestic violence in order for her to do "something good out of something bad."
She is passionate about this battle against any kind of abuse which she reportedly took from her daughter.
"How she died was terrible, painful and horrible and it's taking me a long time to come to terms with how she died," she admitted.
She also wasn't very keen on Oscar Pistorius' trial being re-evaluated in the Supreme Court of Appeals commenting that "it won't bring my daughter back".
"How is it going to help me?" she reportedly told The Star when asked about the appeal. No matter what happens to the Oscar Pistorius trial, one fact remains: "my daughter died. Horribly."
