Before you decide to introduce your partner to your parents, you may want to try acrobatic yoga together to test your trust for one another.
Arco yoga, which combines acrobatics with partner yoga, is the new way for couples to strengthen their bond with each other as most of the moves are built on trust, according to 6ABC News.
“You have to be very sensitive to weight shifts, you have to keep your bones stacked,” explained yoga instructor Jonathan Stein.
He continued, “You can hear there’s a lot of laughter going on. The classes move so fast, people don’t realize they’re getting a fantastic workout too.”
Acro yoga was created by Jenny Sauer-Klein and Jason Nemer in 2003, according to NY Daily News. The trend has quickly spread as celebrities including Lena Dunham and boyfriend Jack Antonoff as well as Behati Prinsloo and husband Adam Levine revealed their love for acrobatic yoga via social media.
How does acrobatic yoga work, you may ask?
One partner reportedly lies on the ground, acting as the “base,” while the other, the “flyer,” is elevated and balances on the base’s legs. Basically, acrobatic yoga is a collection of crazy trust exercises.
“It’s a metaphor for how to be in a relationship in your real life,” stated Sauer-Klein.
The therapeutic component to acrobatic yoga may be the main reason it’s becoming more and more widespread.
“I think it could be a wonderful way for couples to connect and engage with each other,” stated licensed marriage counselor Carrie Cole.
She added, “Trust and communication are the keys to a successful relationship.”
