'Star Wars 7' Spin Off Titled 'Rogue One' Has Cast 'The Theory Of Everything' Star Felicity Jones As Lead! Episode 8 Release Date Also Revealed

| By

While fans are eagerly waiting for "Star Wars 7" to arrive in theaters this December, Disney and Lucasfilm have announce details about the upcoming future movies in the franchise.

While everything about the upcoming "Star Wars" spin-off movies have been kept underwrapped, Variety exclusively reported that the title has already been announced.

The standalone movie's official title is said to be "Rogue One."

"Godzilla" director Gareth Edwards is on board to helm the "Star Wars 7" spin-off movie.

While no further details about "Rogue One's" plot has been announced, it has been confirmed that it will start production in London this summer to reach its planned release date on Dec. 16, 2016.

Together with the announcement of the official title, it has also been reported that the spin-off's lead cast has already been found.

Felicity Jones, who has been nominated in this year's Grammy for her highly acclaimed portrayal of Stephen Hawking's wife, Jane, in the biopic titled "The Theory of Everything," is confirmed to be the first official cast of "Star Wars 7" spin-off movie.

Jones' casting is contrary to previous reports claiming that "Orphan Black" star Tatiana Maslany has bagged the lead role.

According to Total Geek, Jones together with Maslany and "Pan" actress Rooney Mara auditioned for the role.

And while everything is looking good with "Star Wars 7" spin-off movie, the release date to the sequel to "The Force Awakens" has also been announced.

"Star Wars Episode VIII," which has no title yet, will officially be released on May 26, 2017.

The sequel to be written and directed by Rian Johnson (Looper), has no cast yet, but with the things way are going it's expected that names would come out soon.

Bob Iger previously shared the company's plans for "Star Wars" franchise during his podcast interview with Get Your Geek On.

"As one of the few people allowed to visit the set during filming....and one of the fewer who's seen most of the footage...I can assure the millions of 'Star Wars' fans who have spent the last decade hoping for a new movie this one will be worth the wait. And it's only the beginning of a new era of exceptional Star Wars storytelling; next year we'll release our first standalone movie based on these characters, followed by 'Star Wars: Episode VIII' in 2017, and we'll finish this trilogy with Episode IX in 2019."
