The last "Vikings" season 3 episode basically saw main characters experience a series of unfortunate events.
Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) and his crew returned to Kattegat after a triumphant trip in Mecia, only to be welcomed by a horrible news. Siggy (Jessalyn Gilsig) died of drowning.
Rollo (Clive Standen) is furious about what happened to Siggy. Meanwhile, Bjorn is having trouble dealing with the fate of his wife Thorunn (Gaia Weiss).
Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) does not live in Kattegat anymore but even she was not spared from bad news. Her situation though is completely different from what is going on in her former town.
She arrived in Hedeby with her powers as the earl usurped by Kalf, the person she trusts the most ever since occupying that particular position.
Kalf (Ben Robson) has taken over as Earl of Hedeby while Lagertha was out in Mecia flirting with King Ecbert. Who is Kalf? What is he really after? Talking to Access Hollywood, Robson shared some "Vikings" season 3 episode guide on what to expect about his character.
"I think it's the first step of recognition," Ben said of Kalf's drive for fame. "I mean, I think for the Vikings, it's to be recognized by the gods, to be fighting by Odin's side in the war of the gods in Valhalla."
One man he is trying to mimic is "Vikings" main protagonist Ragnar, the ex-husband of Lagertha, the woman Kalf also desires.
"I think if you've got Ragnar who has achieved so much for the Vikings, if he's being recognized -- and I think Kalf wants to be recognized more than Ragnar -- [Kalf] has to surpass whatever Ragnar has achieved, and I think in terms of his fame, it's - from a farmer to a king, that's an incredible degree of success, so if he can achieve anything like that, it's a monumental task."
