Jerry Lawler, wrestling legend and World Wrestling Entertainment commentator, suffered a heart attack during a live television broadcast before being rushed to the hospital.
"Monday Night Raw" announcer collapsed while on-air and was transported to a Montreal-area hospital. Lawler, who wrestled in a tag-team match earlier in the show, was stricken while calling the action in another match and was carried backstage at the Bell Centre.
The 62-year-old Lawler did indeed suffer a heart attack, WWE confirmed.
"Jerry "The King" Lawler suffered a heart attack while commentating during last night's broadcast of Monday Night Raw in Montreal. We are hopeful Jerry makes a full recovery and returns to WWE in the near future. Our thoughts are with Jerry and his family," WWE said in a statement.
Broadcast partner Michael Cole told the viewers that the situation was "serious," but Lawler was breathing on his own. "This is not part of tonight's entertainment," Cole said. "This is a real-life situation."
According to Cole, Lawler fell out of his chair and doctors rushed to the announcer's table before a stretcher carried Lawler to the backstage area where he received CPR. Cole said Lawler was responding well to tests and would be given a CT scan in the hospital, and "in typical Jerry Lawler fashion, he's fighting hard."
Jerry Lawler's ex-wife and ex-WWE performer Stacey "The Kat" Carter announced from her Twitter account (StaceyCarterKat) Tuesday morning: "Just got a @JerryLawler update. He had a stint & a balloon put in. Right now he is still heavily sedated. Will update when I know more."
Not long before his collapse, however, Lawler was actually wrestling, teaming with Randy Orton against CM Punk and Dolph Ziggler:
