CW Network's "Arrow" up the ante in the third season by introducing one of the most iconic villains in history, Ra's al Ghul (Matt Nable).
The Head of the Demon thought he killed Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) when they battled in the mid-season finale. Since the show is about the Green Arrow, he cannot die.
And so, when Oliver was stabbed by Ra's al Ghul and made fans assume the Emerald Archer is dead, comics fans instantly assumed he will be revived through the Lazarus Pit, the famous DC comics myth the villain uses to rejuvenate himself from time to time.
Fans who have seen all "Arrow" season 3 episodes, probably know by now that Lazarus Pit didn't save the Starling City hero.
Lazarus pit may not have anything to do with Oliver's survival but in the next episodes, it will be featured more. This miraculous pit was not read in any Green Arrow releases in comics but in the CW Network TV series, it will be explored.
According to an "Arrow" season 3 episode guide from executive producer Marc Guggenheim, Lazarus Pit will have more exposure.
"All year long we've been teasing what comic book fans know as the Lazarus Pit. We'll learn a lot more about that in 316," Guggenheim tells The Hollywood Reporter.
Guggenheim also explained why they made the Lazarus Pit available for "Arrow" season 3.
"The world of magic fits pretty well into the world of Arrow," said Guggenheim. "We've already seen superpowers on the show. Once you've seen super powers, the occult and magic - that actually fits better in Arrow than superpowers."
"Arrow" will return this week for "The Offer" episode after a one month of hiatus. Read the complete "Arrow" season 3 episode guide below.
"Still weighed down by his last meeting with Ra's al Ghul (guest star Matt Nable), Oliver (Stephen Amell) returns home to find a new villain and his crew have started terrorizing Starling City - Michael Amar AKA Murmur (guest star Adrian Glynn McMorran), a man whose mouth has been sewn shut. Meanwhile, Laurel (Katie Cassidy) and Nyssa (guest star Katrina Law) bond over their issues with their fathers and Nyssa make Laurel an offer. Thea (Willa Holland) is forced to come to terms with her father after Oliver brings Malcom (John Barrowman) to the loft to recover, and Lance (Paul Blackthorne) shuts out both Laurel and the Arrow."
