The last episode of "Vikings" was shocking for most fans mainly because it killed off one of the favorite characters.
The History Channel show hasn't killed a major character in its first three episodes but in its latest one, it finally closed the door on one fan favorite.
(Spoilers Ahead)
Although a complicated one, Siggy (portrayed by Jessalyn Gilsig) has survived the show for three seasons because of her ambitiousness, manipulation and strong will. However, those characteristics of her did not play well in front of mysterious Harbard (Kevin Durand) also known as the Wanderer.
Siggy has always been suspicious of the Wanderer who came at a time when Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) and Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) were away. That suspicion of her was put to an end as she died from drowning with Durand's character as the only witness.
The former wife of fallen Kattegat Earl was just trying to save the kids of Aslaug who was out with the Wander doing intimate things. While doing so, she had hallucinations, including seeing her dead daughter. Then, the Wanderer surfaced who had all the time in the world to save Siggy but instead opted to just watch as the lady sinks. The Wanderer didn't make a good case of erasing doubts on him by the audience.
How will he affect other characters in the next "Vikings" season 3 episodes? Will Siggy get justice?
According to a "Vikings" season 3 episode guide from Jessalyn Gilsig herself, Siggy won't be dead for good. Her body may be gone but her spirit is still there through a baby about to be born.
"There's a baby coming, and there's a way that Michael ensures that Siggy lives on through this child," Gilsig told the Hollywood Reporter shortly after the latest shocking "Vikings" season 3 episode. "It's really cool the way he honors the character through the birth."
"Everybody will - like you do in life - just keep moving and find a way to deal with it. But of course any time something like that happens, it helps to define who everybody is. That's why I think Michael is such a good storyteller. He will continue to make Siggy's character a part of the narrative. Her death will help reveal who these characters are based on how they did or didn't respond to the events. I know that Ragnor owes Siggy a great debt, since she saves his children."
The next "Vikings" season 3 episode titled "Usurper" will air next week, March 19.
