The three key women Kattegat have divided opinion about the Wanderer (Kevin Durand). With the mystery surrounding this new character in "Vikings," it's just a matter of time before he does something shocking. In the latest episode of the third season, the unthinkable happened. One major character died in a fashion very unlikely for a show about merciless vikings. Instead of spears and swords, this character died of drowing in cold water. This character is somewhat complicated but is one of the favorites among fans. Thus, seeing her go is a shock. If you haven't seen the last "Vikings" Season 3 episode, walk away now as this is full of spoilers.
One of the Kattegat women who was suspicious of the Wanderer's arrival has died. Siggy, played by Jessalyn Gilsig, died while trying to save the kids of Auslag who went out with the mysterious man ak.a. Harbard. She succeeded saving the kids from the cold lake water but she herself failed to come out. What does the Wanderer has to do with the death? He was there but didn't even try to save Siggy. Why did he ignored Siggy? According to Gilsig herself, the mystery over Harbard with continue into the next "Vikings" Season 3 episodes.
"I think that will continue. You will find out...[pauses, seems to choose words carefully] that it plays into the beliefs of the Vikings. He may exist in many forms," Gilsig said in an interview with the Entertainment Weekly.
While the death of Siggy has saddened many fans, Gilsig thinks it was executed right. Siggy is a complicated character and the way she died symbolizes the struggles she went through.
"Suddenly, in this hole in the ice, she's caught between these two worlds" Gilsig told EW when asked what was in Siggy's head in those final moments.
"She can fight to pull herself out of the situation, or she can let the fates take her, and hopefully be reunited with her family. She's such a loner. She's such a solitary figure. She's lost so much. I think she makes that choice to give up the fight."
The History Channel show will return on March 19 for the episode titled "The Usurper." The "Vikings" season 3 episode guide for this is below.
