While there hasn't been any official confirmation of a "Beetlejuice 2" movie, original cast member Winona Ryder has already revealed that the a sequel to Tim Burton's hit horror-comedy film is in the works.
"As far as I know, it's gonna happen," the actress who portrayed the role of Lydia Deetz told HuffPost Live's Ricky Camilleri at the Sundance Film Festival.
Michael Keaton, who played the role of Beetlejuice, has already expressed his desire to work with Burton again for a sequel of in an interview with MTV.
"I've e-mailed Tim a couple of times, talked to the writer a couple of times, but all really, really preliminary stuff until relatively recently," the 63-year-old actor confirmed. "I always said that's the one thing I'd like to do again, if I ever did anything again. But it kind of required Tim to be involved some way or another."
He then added, "Now it looks like he is involved. And without giving too much away we've talked to each other, and e-mailed each other, and if he's in, it's going to be hard not to be in."
While Tim Burton has acknowledged the public's desire for a "Beetlejuice 2" movie, he told Yahoo! Movies that the project should not be called a sequel as he shared the progress of the film.
"There's a script now, that I think is closer to what it could be and I'm excited about it," Burton revealed. "I wouldn't call it so much a sequel, but it'll have some characters [from the original 'Beetlejuice']. It's a bit too early to say but it's definitely something that's on my radar and something I'd love to do."
In a separate interview with IGN, Tim Burton reiterated that a follow up to his 1988 horror-comedy will only come to life if Michael Keaton would return to reprise his role.
"There's only one Beetlejuice, and that's Michael. There is a script, and I would love to work with him again. I think there is now a better chance than ever... I miss that character. There's something that's cathartic and amazing about it. I think it's closer than ever," Burton explained.
