Live Action ‘Dumbo’ Director Announced! Can Tim Burton Bring Another Classical Cartoon Remake To Box Office Success?

| By

After directing "Alice In Wonderland" last 2010, Tim Burton will be taking on another Disney remake project. Will he be able to bring the live action "Dumbo" movie to another staggering success for the studio?

According to The Wall Street Journal, the film studio tapped the "Big Eyes" director to recreate the 1941 classic cartoon into a newer, more tangible version in the near future.

This film will reportedly follow other upcoming Disney cartoon reboots.

"Cinderella," which is directed by Kenneth Branagh, "The Jungle Book," which will feature British superstars Benedict Cumberbatch and Cate Blanchett, and "Beauty And The Beast," which confirmed Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, and Luke Evans as the main actors.

Hopefully, these future projects will be as successful as "Alice In Wonderland" (starring Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, and Helena Bonham Carter) and "Maleficent" (starring Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning). The former reportedly brought in an amazing $1.02 billion while the latter was able to earn $758.4 million around the world.

The live action "Dumbo" movie may be hard to bring to life - seeing as it revolves around a baby circus elephant that can fly - but the studio has reportedly found a possible solution.

The production team will reportedly mix CGI and live footage to make the upcoming film believable. Writer for the upcoming movie, Ehren Kruger, will also "add a unique family story that parallels Dumbo's journey," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Burton isn't a stranger to animation and special effects either. After all, he created cult classics "Corpse Bride" and "The Nightmare Before Christmas."

Just how he will bring the live action "Dumbo" film to life, fans will have to wait and see. No casting announcement has been released yet.

Meanwhile, the eccentric director is currently working on the movie adaptation of the bestselling book "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children."
