"Guardians Of The Galaxy" director James Gunn confirmed on a recent Facebook Q&A that he most likely won't be in San Diego this July because Marvel won't attend Comic Con 2015!
"I'm not sure," the helmer answered when a fan asked if he was going to the San Diego Comic Con in July. "Marvel isn't going so I'm not sure I will."
Clearly in denial, a fan posted about Gunn's news on Twitter.
"Guys, he could be lying," the tweet said.
"I have never lied about anything to the fans, ever," the director promptly replied, however, shooting down any hope of him joking about it.
Thousands of fans line up to be able to get into the highly awaited panel every year. However, a lot of fans will be devastated should Marvel really not attend this year's festivities.
Followers of the popular superhero company lamented the piece of news and it seems that this was also a surprise for Comic Con's director of marketing and public relations, David Glanzer.
"This is the first we've heard of it," he said via UT San Diego. "We don't start scheduling until May, so, to be honest, I wouldn't be able to give any confirmation until closer to the summer."
Glanzer noted that perhaps Marvel could have conflicting schedules with the convention or they could be lacking enough substantial footage to show during the panel.
After all, the studio already had a special event back in Los Angeles last October where they announced several plans for upcoming films.
The publication also noted that Marvel's Comic Con 2015 non-attendance won't be the first time for the company. It skipped the 2011 convention and instead made their announcements during the New York Comic Con.
Marvel Entertainment's executive director of television communications, Arune Singh, did not comment on the studio's schedule last Monday.
Marvel may not be joining Comic Con 2015 but there will still be other booths and panels during the convention that fans could visit.
