Most Los Angeles Lakers news these days are not that good, for fans of the Purple and Gold team.
It is either about another loss or another injury to one of the players. Their current season is a flat-out disaster. Right now, they are second to the last in the Western Conference with 16-45 Win-Loss record.
Mathematically, they still have a chance for the top eight but with their line-up and their superstar Kobe Bryant out for the season, a play-off spot sounds impossible.
Next year, most of the Los Angeles Lakers news, fans will read are positive, that is when what executive Jeanie Buss said to media will indeed happen.
In an interview with the Los Angeles news group in her office at the Lakers' practice facility in El Segundo, the part-owner of the second winningest franchise in NBA history said her team will again be a team other clubs will fear. They will be a contender again.
"I've been assured by our basketball operations that the team will be back in contention soon. If we are not meeting those goals, then changes have to occur," Buss said of the Los Angeles Lakers office's plan for the 2015-2016 campaign.
"I have no reason not to believe them when they tell me that's what they can deliver. I don't see what would be holding them back."
Earlier, Jeanie's brother Jim Buss, current VP of the Los Angeles Lakers basketball operations, promised that the team will be back in the finals within three years. If that don't happen, they will be in debt (not literal) to their shareholders and fans.
"Then we owe it to our shareholders, fans and partners that we have to move in a different direction to get this team back into contention," Jeanie Buss said. "We made a commitment that we would operate the team the way Dr. Buss ran it."
As to how they will Los Angeles Lakers do it, Buss said, quoting his brother, said it will not involve Phil Jackson, the coach who brought them five rings through superstars Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant.
"I can understand where Phil would be a disruption," Jeanie Buss said. "I asked my brother if Phil could have any role in the organization. He and Mitch made it clear they didn't need Phil, nor did they need anybody else. They felt they have everything covered and didn't need another voice in their vision and plan for this team."
