For the first time in its history, it enlisted a 50-year-old veteran actress, making Bellucci the oldest ever to grace the film. It is not just fans who were surprised by the casting, even Bellucci herself. In an interview with The Sunday Times, the actress, known for her roles in "The Matrix 2," "Shoot 'Em up," and the controversial "Irreversible" the first thing that came out of her mind was "How."
"My first thought was, 'How can I be a Bond girl at 50?'" recalled Monica Bellucci after getting the "Spectre" role. "I just blurted out, 'I'm not a girl, I'm a woman, I'm a mature woman. Do I have to replace Judi Dench?'"

"Is that the rumor? I don't know if I can answer that. Let the fantasies swirl around. People will find out the truth when they see the film," the new James Bond girl said.
"All I can say about Lucia is that she brings to life the idea that femininity can be a thing of strength. In life and in movies, femininity is often depicted as a weakness. But not in Spectre."
As for James Bond, who will be played by Daniel Craig in "Spectre," Monica Bellucci said he is the perfect man for Italians.
"James Bond is the ideal man for Italians," said Monica. "He's courageous, strong, mysterious, sexy and the perfect English gentleman. So I think Daniel Craig is perfect for that."
