Fox musical drama "Empire" is basically about music. So it is understandable that the singers and rappers take most of the spotlight.
However, in the last two episodes, Andre Lyon, the son of Empire Enterprises CEO who would rather be in conference rooms than recording studios, outshone other "Empire" TV series cast.
Played by Trai Byers, Andre has opened a new interesting plot to an already intense drama. The eldest son of Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Cookie (Taraji Henson) is a bipolar and his tantrums are causing inconvenience to the company.
In the last episode, Andre broke down in the conference room in front of his father and eventually spitting out their darkest secret, that Lucious is a murderer. He was then restrained and was forcefully admitted into a psychiatric hold.
The power-hungry Empire heir will surely return. However, when that happens, he will have a lot on his plates. One of those is the inevitable confrontation with his wife Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) who signed the papers to admit him in a ward despite Andre's obvious disapproval.
Andre has the shortest temper among all "Empire" TV series cast. As per Bryer, his character will feel hurt and betrayed with what Rhonda did and this will lead to an intense scene in Episode 10 titled "Sins of the Father."
"I'll say this: Nobody likes betrayal - especially Andre. So, when Rhonda signs him over, it's a sign of betrayal to him and he does not like it at all. You're going to have to see what happens in episode 10, my friend," the "Empire" TV series cast said in an interview with TV Line shortly after the last episode.
Another thing Byers teased is the scene between him and Henson. These two "Empire" TV series cast may be playing mother and son in the show but they rarely have interaction. The scenes in episode nine will bring them together but not in a way you might expect.
"The relationship is very strained with Andre and Cookie. Cookie, she recognizes Andre as picking himself up by the boot straps and getting educated - and she feels a certain way about not being a part of that," Byers said.
"And he feels like he's abandoned, basically, by his mother when she goes away and he has to fend for himself. That's a hard pill to swallow and something to get over. They're working on it. There might be something to look forward in the future involving the two of them while they're working through their issues as mother and son."
