First Of 'Star Wars' Spin Off Movies Actively Gearing Up - 'Orphan Black' Star Tatiana Maslany Landed The Lead Role?

While fans are eagerly waiting for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" to hit theaters in December, one of the upcoming three spin-off movies is reportedly gearing up.

The Gareth Edwards "Star Wars" movie is said to have cast its lead star.

According to the exclusive report from Total Geek, "Orphan Black" lead cast Tatiana Maslany has just landed the lead role for the first of "Star Wars" spin off movies.

The 29-year-old Canadian actress, together with Rooney Mara and Felicity Jones reportedly auditioned for a part in the movie.

The publication claimed that Maslany's recent exit from her Off-Broadway project "The Way We Get By" is a possible indication that she has indeed landed a role in first of "Star Wars" spin off movies.

However, Lucasfilm or Disney Studios has either confirmed or denied the news.

In addition to Tatiana Maslany, a separate report from iKwiz suggests that "X-Men Days of Future Past" star Michael Fassbender is also a front-runner in the 2016 spin off.

The publication even mentioned that the upcoming "Star Wars" spin off movie is going to delve on the story of Han Solo and Boba Fett, a rumor that has been going on since the announcement of the project.

"Boba Fett is a mantle. The name, the ship and the armor gets passed down to a successor," the source of the publication reportedly revealed. "That's how he is brought back for the films and explains the character for later stories."

Disney CEO Bob Iger once mentioned that the upcoming spin off movie will be based on the characters in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

iKwiz on the other hand, claimed that Boba Fett could indeed be featured in one of the "Star Wars" spin off movies, when the alleged source teased fans that the iconic bounty hunter could appear in future films.

"Fett fans are in for a few surprises. They [Disney] get the cult status of the character, so you're going to see more Boba Fett in the future."

"Michael Fassbender is the frontrunner to be Boba Fett, fact!"

"Breaking Bad" actor Aaron Paul, on the other hand, is said to take on the role of Han Solo.

In case you haven't read Bob Iger's revelation about his plans for "Star Wars" in the future during his podcast interview with Get Your Geek On, here it is below:

"As one of the few people allowed to visit the set during filming....and one of the fewer who's seen most of the footage...I can assure the millions of 'Star Wars' fans who have spent the last decade hoping for a new movie this one will be worth the wait. And it's only the beginning of a new era of exceptional Star Wars storytelling; next year we'll release our first standalone movie based on these characters, followed by 'Star Wars: Episode VIII' in 2017, and we'll finish this trilogy with Episode IX in 2019."

The first "Star Wars" spin-off movie will reportedly hit theaters on Dec. 16, 2016.
