News about the sequel to Brad Pitt's high grossing film "World War Z" have been really slow lately.
However, a new development suggests that the second installment to the planned franchise will no longer be based on Max Brook's novel of the same name.
Steven Knight, who's famous for the highly acclaimed TV series "Peaky Binders," has been confirmed to write on the treatment of "World War Z 2."
And in a recent interview with Indie Wire, the writer-director admitted that while a sequel is indeed in the works, he'll most likely jump in the project with a "clean slate."
"I thought, 'Why not? What fun,'" he said of "World War Z 2." "It's not quite like the other, we're starting with clean slate. When they've signed off we're on."
His statement immediately fueled speculations that not only the project has yet to be green lit, the sequel would deviate from Max Brook's novel.
Screen Rant however, mentioned that Brad Pitt and the rest of the cast and crew would most likely start production in October.
"The Impossible" director Juan Antonio Bayona replaces, Marc Forster as the sequel's helmer following the latter's rumored altercation with Pitt.
"Things got so bad that when Forster had notes on a scene for Pitt, they had to be relayed through an intermediary - and vice versa," Vulture previously reported of Forster and Pitt's feud.
"Ironically, Pitt, whose company, Plan B, is producing 'World War Z,' originally fought for Forster to be given the director's chair on World War Z," the publication added.
Director Juan Antonion Bayona is reported working on another film, "A Monster Calls" and until he's finished with the project "World War Z 2" production would still have to wait.
