'Gotham' Cast Robin Lord Taylor Wants The TV Series To Explore Penguin's Fascination With Umbrella In Season 2

Compared to other Batman characters, Oswald Cobblepot is owning most of the spotlight in Fox TV series Gotham.

There were many interesting characters in the show given justice by each "Gotham" TV series cast. However, the portrayal of Robin Lord Taylor of Cobblepot who will become the Penguin is more noticeable. Even Danny Devito who played the same character in the 1992 film "Batman Returns" was fascinated by Taylor's talent.

Although Taylor and Penguin have more exposure on the show, the "Gotham" TV series cast thinks there still people need to know about Oswald Cobblepot. For the 36-year-old actor, writers still have a lot to offer about The Penguin. One of which is his trademark fascination with umbrellas. In the comics, Cobblepot always carry an umbrella that can perform several tricks to dispose off his enemies.

For the second season of "Gotham," Taylor wants to see more amazing umbrellas and how Cobblepot will come up with such weapons.

"That would be so exciting, because that's also going to be part of his descent into madness. We're getting there as the show goes along," the "Gotham" TV series cast said in an interview with Comic Book Resources when asked if he hopes writers will tackle Penguin's umbrellas.

"That requires incredible ingenuity. How do you make an umbrella that shoots bullets, or, if you get really fantastical like Tim Burton, an umbrella that flies? Who does Oswald find to make that stuff for him? It would be amazing to really explore that."

Another thing Taylor wants to see in the second season is more scenes for Penguin's mother Gertrud Kapelput played by Carol Kane. Kane is another "Gotham" TV series cast that has been getting good reviews from critics despite the minimal airtime.

"I would like them to explore more personal things about Oswald. What Carole brings to the show illuminates so much about where Penguin comes from and who he is outside of his actions and aspirations," he explained. "She informs us of who he is as a person. I'd like to see more of that, and more of that for everybody in the show. Where do these people eat? Where do they sleep at night? We get that from Jim, but I'd like them to get into more personal stuff with Oswald and Bullock and Edward Nygma. How do these people actually exist in the "real world?" That's what I would love to see."

Taylor and the rest of "Gotham" TV series cast will return for their 19th episode.
