All the "Empire" TV series cast stand out on their own.
The hit musical drama from Fox has been breaking their own record each week thanks to the captivating performance of the cast lead by Taraji Henson and Terrence Howard.
The show is known for its mesmerizing songs. One thing that eclipses those songs though is the signature line of Henson's Cookie Lyon. Ever since the first episode of the show, the veteran actress has been dropping the line "Boo Boo Kitty," most especially to Anika, the wife of her former husband Lucious.
What does it really mean?
Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Henson said the line was not part of the script.
"All of that is straight off the cuff. I don't know-something happens to me," the lead "Empire" TV series cast explained.
For co-creator Danny Strong, he thinks "Boo Boo Kitty" line is stupid but then was amused that it became a hit.
"So basically Taraji is a genius," Strong claimed. "She's a comic genius but she's also an incredibly powerful, dramatic actress and we're utilizing all that in Cookie. In the case of Boo Boo Kitty, I had rewritten that stupid line five times and then she just comes up and goes, 'Mm, mm, mm. Boo Boo Kitty.' And I was like, 'That's the most genius thing I've ever seen.' And then we start writing it into the script because we loved it. We loved the phrase 'Boo Boo Kitty.'"
While the whole "Empire" TV series cast and staff are surprised by the impromptu line's reception, they are still at a loss about its meaning. Henson explained using "Boo Boo Kitty" is another way of saying the "B" word.
"You know what it is? It's nasty nice," the "Empire" TV series cast said.
"You don't want to be called Boo Boo Kitty. You know, it's almost like when somebody calls you sweetie all the time. It's almost like 'bitch' without saying it."
Henson and the rest of the "Empire" TV series cast will return today for the episode "Unto the Breach."
