'Captain Marvel' Movie News: 'Vikings' Cast Katheryn Winnick Wants To Fight Katee Sackhoff For Carol Danvers Role

| By

There's not much "Captain Marvel" movie news around probably because this new film will hit the big screen only by 2018.

Still, fans are already making their own campaign for their favorite actresses to get the role of Carol Danvers. One of the names that make the loudest noise is "Vikings" star Katheryn Winnick.

The Canadian actress' name was first involved in the the "Captain Marvel" movie in November 2014 when a fan of hers and the Marvel superhero posted a photo featuring her in a Captain Marvel costume. The picture garnered more attention when she posted it on photo sharing site Instagram.

Fast forward to March 2015, Winnick's desire to play the lead role in the "Captain Marvel" movie grew bigger and she is now challenging other artists who fans are voting to play Carol Danvers.

In an interview with Movie Web, the "Vikings" TV series cast expressed how much she loves the material where this 2018 movie will be based from.

"Are you kidding me? I would love to! I would love to do that," Winnick said when asked a possible casting for the "Captain Marvel" movie.

"I am such a big fan of those movies and comic books. It would be a dream come true. I love kicking butt. Lagertha, my character in Vikings, kicks butt in the dark ages. It would be interesting to go into the future and do a fantasy one as well."

She then mentioned the name of Katee Sackhoff (recently starred in the "Power Rangers" short film) who is also a strong candidate for the role. She then went on to challenge her in a standoff.

"Are you asking for a standoff?" She said. "We can fight it out! We'll see who the best person is for the job! I'll just have a strong sidekick...No, no, no...All kidding. I haven't heard much about it, but I know it would be something I'd be interested in. For sure. Who wouldn't be?"

Sackhoff revealed on episode 113 of the Schmoes Know Movies last year that Marvel has expressed interest on her for the "Captain Marvel" movie.

"There's been some stuff going on... there's been a lot of checking of availability," she admitted. "I don't quite know exactly... There's been a lot of questions about the first quarter of next year."

Right now, Marvel and Disney hasn't confirmed any casting news for the "Captain Marvel" movie.
