Finally, Samsung Galaxy S4 owners with Snapdragon 600 variant can now experience the all new Android 5.0 Lollipop update using an unofficial firmware.
For the users of model number GT-I9505, the CM12 custom firmware based on Android 5.0 Lollipop update is now readily available
Samsung Galaxy S4 originally runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean when it was released on April 2013. However, according to GSM Arena, there is a planned Android 5.0 Lollipo update for the said smartphone.
Samsung has yet to release the official upgrade for Galaxy S4 units, however for those adventurous owners of the device a custom ROM port of the Lollipop OS is now available.
The CM12 ROM firmware dedicated for the Samsung Galaxy S4 was reportedly developed by "XDA senior members Antares One and Alucard24," according to Customs Today.
"Currently, there are no device-related issues with the ROM, except a cracking sound coming from the speaker at high volume," the publication described the status of the said firmware.
There are a few requirements for the Samsung Galaxy S4 with model number GT-I9505 owners to be able to install the 5.0 Lollipop update through CM12 custom firmware.
First, the device should have at least 80 percent of battery life before installing the firmware, this is must to avoid power interruptions during installation.
One important detail that everyone should keep in mind is to create a backup of all the important information of the device. There is always a chance that the upgrade can erase all the memory in the smartphone.
Lastly, the USB Debugging Mode on the phone should always be turned on prior to installation. Just go to the Settings menu and click on the Developer Settings to do this.
After carefully doing all of these, the Samsung Galaxy S4 is now ready for the Android 5.0 Lollipop update.
