Petra Solano is the typical trophy ex-wife villain in a telenovela yet "Jane The Virgin" cast Yael Grobglas makes the character more pitiful and complicated
"It's been pretty wild," the Israeli actress told the Times Of Israel in an interview.
This is her big break for Hollywood after starring in a handful of shows and movies in her own country. This may be her first foray into acting in America but the CW show's head scripter writer, Jennie Urman, thinks she fulfilled the role of Petra quite well.
"I just didn't want her to be this sort of ordinary trophy wife. I wanted her to be a little deeper and more interesting, and suddenly I remembered Yael," Urman said. "I knew she was going to be amazing in the role, and she's just been better than I anticipated."
They were so impressed by the actress, in fact, that Urman promises to "keep giving her a lot of good, juicy material."
In the Golden Globe-nominated series' latest episode, Grobglas' character, Petra had managed to climb back up to the top again after being trampled by both her mother and supposed lover, Lachlan. Ironically, Milos, the ex-boyfriend, whom she had been running from all her life, gave her the chance to take over the Marbella by giving her the 30% of the hotel's shares that he acquired.
Some people like her conniving ways while others just want her to get kicked out of the hotel. But how does this talented "Jane The Virgin" cast feel towards her own character?
"I feel like she's forced to do things that she normally wouldn't want to do," the 30-year-old blonde beauty shared.
"I do respect her, because I think she is such a strong person," she added about all the distressing situations that Petra had to go through. "I would've broken down a long time ago, but she keeps fighting, and she's not giving up. I feel like she would like to live a more quiet life, but life happens to her, and she just has to deal with it in the way she deals with it."
