Actress Lupita Lupita Nyongo's pearl dress which she wore at the Oscars went missing on Wednesday.
Her $150,000 dress was stolen in her London hotel room in West Hollywood, Calif. around 8pm-9pm, TMZ first broke the news.
After the theft was reported to the police, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles sheriff's department told Us Weekly that there's an ongoing investigation about Lupita's stolen dress.
"We are looking at every scenario; when the cleaners go to clean the rooms they do it with the door open so that's a possibility," the spokesperson said.
"Currently we are still investigating, detectives are interviewing and looking for witnesses."
London hotel has been working with the law enforcers on their investigation too.
Earlier today, TMZ reports that the dress had been recovered as thieves dumped the dress in a garbage bag and returned it back to the hotel.
"A guy called us at around 2:30 p.m. Friday and said he had taken the dress from Lupita's hotel room after he noticed the door was ajar," TMZ reported.
The thief also revealed to TMZ that he and his cohorts removed some pieces of pearls and later found out that they were fake when they had them appraised by jewelry experts in the Los Angeles garment district.
The caller also added that they've returned the dress for people to know that "Hollywood's fake bu*****."
The 30-year-old actress who loaned the custom made dress from Calvin Klein said that she is grateful the dressed was recovered, but police are still verifying if it was the same Calvin Klein dress.
Meanwhile, Francisco Costa, Women's Creative Director of Calvin Klein Collection, has also released a statement that the dress will be restored .
"This was an amazing collaboration between the brand and Lupita and the dress looked truly exquisite on her. Once it's returned to us, we will be able to have the dress restored and archived, as it now represents an important moment for the brand," he said on his statement.
