Lupita Nyong'o's Oscars gown attracted everyone's attention as she arrived at the Dolby Theater last Sunday. Apparently, the custom-made Calvin Klein dress was so captivating that someone actually stole it from the Academy Award-winning actress' hotel room in West Hollywood.
According to Los Angeles Times, no one has been arrested yet for stealing the Calvin Klein masterpiece valued at $150,000 from the London Hotel last Tuesday or Wednesday.
BBC reported that officers of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department are looking through CCTV footage to determine when and who exactly took the dress. Conflicting reports suggested that it was stolen on either Tuesday or Wednesday.
"We are looking at every scenario; when the cleaners go to clean the rooms they do it with the door open so that's a possibility," a spokesperson for the department reportedly said in a statement, according to US Weekly. "Currently we are still investigating, detectives are interviewing and looking for witnesses."
The London Hotel was also "working with law enforcement" to get to the bottom of the thievery as well as to retrieve the dress.
"Ms Nyong'o was not in the room at the time of the theft," Deputy John Mitchell reportedly told Reuters, as reported by BBC.
Lupita Nyong'o's Oscars gown, which took 10 weeks to finish, was designed by Francisco Costa for the couture brand emplying 25 people to fill it with 6,000 Akoya pearls.
The inspiring actress teased reporters that she was "just wearing my diamonds and pearls" when she arrived for the prestigious awards show.
She also told reporters at the 87th Academy Awards that her spectacular dress was a homage to the great musician Prince and "the sea."
"We talked about it being fluid and liquid," the 31-year-old actress reportedly commented.
The Kenyan-born actress won the Best Supporting Actress award for her outstanding performance in "12 Years A Slave" last year. She also presented at this year's awards show at the Dolby Theater.
