The new Derrick Rose injury news has taken the league aback. On Tuesday, Chicago Bulls announced that the 2011 NBA MVP has reported a knee pain, which was later confirmed through MRI as meniscus tear.
Rose will undergo surgery, leaving a deep hole in the Bulls lineup as the playoff approaches.
While the new Derrick Rose injury saddened the whole league, the Chicago Bulls office remain optimistic. According to a latest update, the 26-year old point guard might not be gone for long. In fact, there is a chance that he will return before the season's end.
"The sense right now appears to be that this tear isn't as significant as the one Rose had in November of 2013, and that the surgery he'll undergo - to remove a small cartilage tear - will necessitate a shorter rehabilitation period," the Score wrote on its latest Derrick Rose injury update.
Over at ESPN, Jon Greenberg wrote that the doctor can have the option of just shaving tear down to curb the rehabilitation period.
"Rose could get the meniscus repaired, which comes with a longer rehab schedule, like last time, or he could get it 'shaved down' and possibly return this season. Bulls team doctor Brian Cole will perform the procedure, as he did the previous two, according to Thibodeau."
Derrick Rose injury is definitely a major snag for the team. Still, his coach and teammates are optimistic that the quick cat point guard will recover fast.
"He's high-spirited," Butler said, according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune. "I think we're all optimistic about it. We want him back and I'm sure he's going to try and get back as soon as possible."
"He has great mental toughness," head coach Tom Thibodeau said. "He has gotten past a lot of hurdles. This is another one. He'll get past this one too. ...
"We have to have patience. We just have to take it day by day."
Joakim Noah is angry with what happened to his teammate.
"Just really sad," said center Joakim Noah, Rose's longest-tenured teammate. "Angry, sad - he doesn't deserve it. It's just really disappointing ... I feel bad for him, but I know he's a tough guy and he's going to bounce back."
