Following the success of Marvel's first intergalactic superhero film, "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" movie was confirmed.
But, what could director James Gunn have to offer this time?
In an interview with Comic Book Resources, the award-winning director offered some possible "GOTG 2" spoilers as he discussed the changes that are bound to happen in the sequel.
First, he assured that "The Guardians are going to continuously change."
Warning possible "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" spoilers ahead!
As Gunn continues to share details about the upcoming superhero movie, he mentioned something about what fans should expect about the well-loved characters in the sequel.
"There's a process of discovery, and I'm not sure the characters who were the favorites from the last movie are going to be the favorites in the next movie," he explained.
"It's really about listening to the audience, but then keeping myself as open to discovery as possible, because I think that there's a lot of things that have gone unexplored and characters that have gone unexplored."
Adding, "I think that some of the characters are probably worse than what we think they are, and other characters are better than what we think they are," he revealed. "It's going to be interesting to learn a little bit about that as time goes on."
His statement immediately fueled speculations about the possibility of featuring the dark side of the main characters specifically Groot and Star-Lord, as he previously cited that the two were the most favorite among the team members.
For more "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" spoilers, James Gunn also revealed that the sequel will delve into the characters' lives exploring what was not explored in the first film.
"Really, it's just about walking forward in an elegant manner," he said.
"When you go forward with a group of characters... you're understanding these characters in a new way, you're developing a new kind of story about their lives and who they are and where they're going. And if you're doing that, if you're walking forward, then you can't just repeat what you did before. That's going backwards. That's not understanding the character."
With that being said, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, David Bautista and Bradley Cooper are all returning to "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" to reprise their roles as Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot, Drax the Destroyer and Rocket Raccoon, respectively.
The sequel to Marvel's highly successful intergalactic movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 5, 2017.
