If you have been on the internet since the start of the week, you probably have seen the dark version of the "Power Rangers" franchise.
The video, which has been shared by various entertainment and leisure websites, now has more than 6 million views and counting in just three days since it was uploaded on YouTube on Feb. 23.
The "Power Ranger" movie reboot was produced by Joseph Kahn and Adi Shankar. Kahn worked on music videos for several Hollywood musicians while Shankar has produced several bootleg films before including "The Punisher," "Judge Dredd" and "Venom." He also worked on mainstream films like "Lone Survivor," "Killing Me Softly" and "Machine Gun Preacher."
While the reception on the "Power Rangers" movie dark reboot film was overwhelming, Saban Entertainment, which owns the rights for the 90s superheroes, reportedly wants it taken down. In a series of tweets, Kahn revealed Saban wants to shut down the "Power Rangers" short film.
He also expressed his excitement for the people's reception of their project.
Talking to HitFix, Kahn also talked about how other fan films inspired his work for the "Power Rangers" movie reboot.
"It's funny... I've seen repurposed stuff on the Internet where they take a property that's serious and make it even more so, like a Batman fan film or something like that, or a video game or whatever," he explained "I've actually seen stuff like where they've taken ridiculous stuff like Mario Brothers and then tried to make the dark and gritty version, and they obviously play it for laughs."
