'Gotham' TV Series Cast Jada Pinkett Smith Once Wrote A Comic Book Starring A 'Black' Heroine

"Gotham" TV series cast Jada Pinkett Smith and her character Fish Mooney stole the spotlight in the Fox show's latest episode.

(Spoiler ahead)

Audiences were in shock after the gruesome scene wherein she stabbed her own eye out (and then smashed it) in front of a doctor wanting to take away her body parts to be sold in the market. From a woman who had everything under control, Mooney is now a woman who has her back against the wall ever since the actions of her former employee Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor).

Smith is reportedly doing a great job portraying her villainous role that could be attributed to her massive love for comics. In an interview with People, the "Gotham" TV series cast shared that she grew up following various comics. In fact, she once wrote a comic book starring a black female superhero.

"I am! I have been. I would say there are some comic books that I've loved that are a bit more obscure," said smith when asked if she loves DC Comics as well.

"I played my hand at creating a comic book before - called Menace - when I was in my twenties. I was trying to create a black female comic-book character that was from the 'hood.'"

The "Gotham" TV series cast added that her own comic book title was under a company that unfortunately closed.

"She was called Menace, and she was this character who was doing a lot of bad stuff. She died in a drug deal gone bad, and, as she's about to die, an angel comes to her, and he basically says, 'Listen, I will return your life to you if you take this opportunity to redeem your soul. I'm going to give you the opportunity to save the souls of those who are like you' - basically, young kids who are out in the streets doing bad things," she explained

Jada Pinkett Smith and the rest of "Gotham" TV series cast will return on March 2 for its 18th episode.
