Tim Burton's "Beetlejuice 2" movie is proving to be moving closer into hitting the theaters as original cast member Winona Ryder recently spilled the beans.
"As far as I know, it's gonna happen," the actress who played Lydia Deetz in the hit horror comedy film told HuffPost Live's Ricky Camilleri at the Sundance Film Festival.
Burton on the other hand, refuses to call "Beetlejuice 2" a sequel explaining to Yahoo! Movies the progress of the upcoming project. He also revealed that a script is already on hand and everything is looking good for the movie to move forward.
"There's a script now, that I think is closer to what it could be and I'm excited about it," Burton revealed. "I wouldn't call it so much a sequel, but it'll have some characters [from the original 'Beetlejuice']. It's a bit too early to say but it's definitely something that's on my radar and something I'd love to do."
In a separate interview with IGN, Tim Burton insists that a follow up to his hit 1988 horror comedy will only push through if Michael Keaton (the original Beetlejuice) would return to reprise his role.
"There's only one Beetlejuice, and that's Michael. There is a script, and I would love to work with him again. I think there is now a better chance than ever... I miss that character. There's something that's cathartic and amazing about it. I think it's closer than ever," Burton explained.
It should be noted though, that Keaton previously expressed his willingness to work with Burton in a "Beetlejuice 2" movie upon talking to MTV.
"I've e-mailed Tim a couple of times, talked to the writer a couple of times, but all really, really preliminary stuff until relatively recently. I always said that's the one thing I'd like to do again, if I ever did anything again. But it kind of required Tim to be involved some way or another," the 63-year-old actor previously said.
He then added, "Now it looks like he is involved. And without giving too much away we've talked to each other, and e-mailed each other, and if he's in, it's going to be hard not to be in."
