Real Madrid has won over Elche 2-0 on Sunday. Striker Karim Benzema scored on the 56th minute after kicking the ball into an empty net.
In September Real Madrid has also won 5-1 against Elche with Cristiano Ronaldo's four goals, the Daily Mail reports.
Real Madrid's goalkeeper Iker Casillas has an uneventful game on his 500th appearance on Spanish league, but he says his team is getting back on track.
"We're getting there. In two weeks football can change a lot. Before there was a barrage of criticism and now things are quiet," he said.
"We know that at Real Madrid the criticism must be harsh and sometimes it can be soft. We have recovered from the puncture at the Calderon and we are where we want to be.We have always had attitude. It's normal to have ups and downs. In the good times things are easy but there must be more unity in the bad times. That's what we have done," Iker Casillas added.
Meanwhile, Cristiano's first goal since Jan. 18 has also put him on Los Blancos' joint third all-time top scorer equaling Carlos Santillana with a total of 290 goals. The Galacticos legend landed the feat with his 645 appearance on the league since his first game on 1971, while Cristiano Ronaldo achieved the third spot with less than half of Santillana's career length.
Cristiano is now 17 goals behind Alfredo Di Stefano who scored 307 in 392 appearances and Raul at number 1 with 323 goals in 741 games.
Real Madrid's win over Elche puts them on the top of La Liga after Barcelona was defeated by Malaga and slipped to second.
"(Barcelona's) loss surprised us all because they were playing very well," said Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti.
"This was an important game considering what happened yesterday so we could gain some distance. But this is going to go down to the last game of the season."
