There are a lot of very talented actresses in Hollywood but according to Patricia Arquette's Oscar speech, the female population in Tinsel Town do not get the same benefits as their male counterparts.
The "Boyhood" actress received the Best Supporting Actress award at the 87th Academy Award last Sunday and she prepared a rousing speech that had fellow nominee Meryl Streep as well as her seatmate, Jennifer Lopez, cheering in their seats.
"To every woman who gave birth, to every taxpayer and citizen of this nation, we have fought for everybody else's equal rights," the 46-year-old actress said after thanking her "Boyhood" co-stars and crew. "It's our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women in the United States of America!"
She also acknowledged the other Best Supporting Actress nominees as "beautiful, powerful." The "Into The Woods" actress shouted "yes" multiple times as Arquette concluded her speech.
According to The Daily Beast, Patricia Arquette's Oscars speech brought the entire Dolby Theatre to its feet.
Arquette isn't the only actress who publicly called out the double standards that women face in society - whether in Hollywood or the rest of the world.
Emma Watson (who recently released a perfectly feminist response to a romantic rumor with Prince Harry) stood in front of the United Nations assembly to call for equal rights for women as she launched the HeForShe campaign last September.
"I think it is right I am paid the same as my male counterparts," the Brown University graduate told the world leaders at the UN Headquarters in New York City. "I think it is right that I should make decisions about my own body. I think it is right that women be involved on my behalf in the policies and decisions that affect my life."
"I think it is right that socially, I am afforded the same respect as men," she added.
